Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty, or "nose job" is one of the most common of all plastic surgery procedures. Rhinoplasty can reduce or increase the size of your nose, change the shape of the tip or the bridge, narrow the span of the nostrils, or change the angle between your nose and your upper lip. It may also correct a birth defect or injury, or help relieve some breathing difficulties due to blocked nasal passages (deviated septum).
Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Lift)
Fullness or “sad eyes” can be treated with a procedure called a Blepharoplasty or Eyelid Lift. It can be performed upon either the upper eyelids or lower eyelids or all four eyelids at the same surgical setting. Frequently, patients will have their brows elevated (Brow or Forehead Lift) and may also have a facelift (Rhytidectomy) during the same surgery.
Blepharoplasty involves removing excess skin and re-contouring the fatty tissue which causes bags under and above the eyes. Incisions are placed in nature’s skin folds to camouflage scars. Occasionally, lower eyelids can be treated with internal incisions so there is no external scar.
Very fine lines around the eyelids, “crows feet”, are not usually improved with a Blepharoplasty surgery; however, with realistic expectations, the “sad” look may be improved.
Facial Lines & Lip Augmentation
Lips can be made fuller and facial lines can be made to look softer and less pronounced with a variety of materials available over the last several years.
Products such as collagen derived from the laboratory (animals & even humans) have long been in use. They have the advantage of being readily available, require no additional surgery – but frequently do not last more than several months.
Other options include removal of fat cells from another area of the body and transferring it to the folds and lines of the face and the lips. These procedures require incisions and sometimes scars in the “donor sites”and may not last more than six to eighteen months.
New filler materials such as Radiesse® are showing promise as they are readily available, do not require a donor site and may last between one to two years.
Face Lift
A Facelift (technically known as Rhytidectomy) cannot stop the aging process, but it will be able to "set back the clock," improving the most visible signs of aging by removing excess fat, tightening underlying muscles, and redraping the skin of your face and neck.
A Facelift can be done alone, or in conjunction with other procedures such as a Forehead lift, Brow lift, Eyelid surgery, or Rhinoplasty. The objective is to improve the appearance of the aging face. Dr. Smith uses the most advanced and most effective methods of treatment available.
The best candidate for a Facelift is a man or woman whose face and neck have begun to sag, but whose skin still has some elasticity and whose bone structure is strong and well defined. A Facelift can make you look younger and fresher, and it may enhance your self- confidence in the process.
Facelifts are very individualized procedures. During your initial consultation, Dr. Smith will evaluate your face, including the skin and underlying bone, and discuss your goals for the surgery. Dr. Smith will check for medical conditions that could cause problems during or after surgery, such as uncontrolled high blood pressure, blood clotting problems, or the tendency to form excessive scars. Make sure to tell Dr. Smith if you smoke or take any drugs or medications.
